TRACY LYNN CHEMALY
DESIGN WRITER AND COPYWRITER
PORTFOLIO

Writing is my creative passion. It brings me emotional clarity and is my ever-present route to flow.

I began my wonderful career in magazines in Cape Town in 2007. Since then, I have written hundreds of features, articles, books, campaigns, press releases and more, mostly related to the design and creative industries in countries where I have lived, including South Africa, Lebanon and Mexico. My training as a journalist and life coach means that I ask the right questions to extract the most relevant and meaningful information that resonates with readers, leaves a lasting impression and inspires people to take action (be that sharing info, buying a product, booking a service or making lifestyle changes). I am a strong believer in the power of words.

I'm still so proud of my first story published in a national newspaper, the Sunday Times, while I was a journalism student in 2006. I interviewed an 80-year-old woman who recounted her experience, on 9 August 1956, of the historical 20,000-person march to parliament to protest against South Africa's pass laws (an event that now marks Women's Day in South Africa). My sister framed the newspaper feature because she was just as excited as I was to see my full name appear in print!

"I honestly thought I had a solid handle on how to talk about my studio - until I started working with Tracy. What I thought would just be a few tweaks to our copy turned into one of the most insightful and transformative experiences I’ve had in my business journey. Tracy has this incredible way of asking questions that go far deeper than “what do you do?”. She helped me connect the dots between my personal goals, my creative direction, and the kind of clients I wanted to work with. I found myself thinking about my business in a completely new way. What came out of our sessions wasn’t just a refined tone of voice - it was clarity. A voice that felt truly aligned with who we are, and one that my whole team could carry forward. Since then, our messaging has felt more confident and consistent, and I’ve even referred clients to her because I know just how powerful her process can be. Working with Tracy gave me more than words - it gave me language that feels like home for my brand."
